In many ways the “ultimate” noble metal that one might consider for jewelry isn’t gold or platinum but their slightly tan colored cousin iridium. With the possible exception of osmium (which is smelly and toxic) it’s the rarest non-radioactive element in the earth’s crust — several times more so than either gold or platinum. It’s even more chemically incorruptible than the other two, it’s heavier (17% denser than gold and 6% denser than platinum), and it’s much more scratch-resistant. There’s also the additional mystique that most if not all of the iridium we mine comes from meteorite impacts and is therefore extraterrestrial. Unfortunately no one has come up with a way to work with it economically, mainly due to its absurdly high melting point and its glassy brittleness. The first artisan to tame iridium will surely take the world by the tail.

How it’s performed: Breast surgery depends mostly on the choice of implant, position and methods of how the implant will be inserted. Put it this way. Beauty is power. That was true centuries ago. That is true today.
When a beautiful woman walks into a bar, men flock to her and offer to buy her drinks. When an unattractive woman walks into the same bar, chances are, she would have to buy her own drinks.

Silicone Breast Implants Revived by FDA

On July 28 2005, the FDA issued a letter of approval to Mentor Corp ending the the thirteen year old ban on silicone-gel breast implants. This move came about as Mentor Corp. persuaded the FDA that its newer silicone implants are less dangerous and more durable than older versions. The company will employ these implants only under the following strict safety conditions approved by the FDA.
- Prospective patients must sign a consent form acknowledging that they realise the risks of a silicone breast implant including the fact that they could break and need replacement or removal.
- Mentor is only allowed to sell silicone breast implants to board-certified plastic surgeons who complete a successful practical training program to learn how to insert these implants in a way that minimizes the odds of breakage.
- Mentor must produce and maintain a registry to track the implant patients long term results.
- Patients must be educated about the fact that if an implant breaks, the effect of the breakage typically doesn’t cause immediate symptoms. Further it is advised to have an MRI after 5 years and 2 years thereafter to check for breakage.
