History of the Watch
November 30, 2007
The earliest mention of the watch was in Shakespeare’s play “As You Like It.” In the second act of the play one character produces a sun-dial from his pocket and muses about the time. Though at this time in history a true, portable timekeeping piece would have been too much of a hassle. Coming up with a powers source for the watch was impossible at this time. But in the 1500’s Peter Henlein from Germany created the first pocket watch. And from that point on portable timekeeping was part of the norm.
In the early 1600s, form watches came into being. Cases shaped like animals and objects and religious themed watches were the most popular. But cheap, portable clocks?watches?didn’t really come into wide spread use until 1780 when Abraham Louis Perrelet invented the self winding movement.
Watch making enters its prime period in the years that followed. In 1791, J.F. Bautte founded the watch company that would eventually become Girard-Perregaux. In 1820, Thomas Prest registers a patent for the self-winding watch. In 1833 Antoine LeCoultre started his own watch making business that would eventually become Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Safety With Essential Oils
November 29, 2007
Essential oils are highly fragrant, volatile oils that are extracted from the flowers, leaves and other parts of plants. Essential oils generally go by the name of the plant from which they were extracted. For instance, lavender essential oil comes from lavender and sandalwood essential oil comes from sandalwood. Essential oils have several properties which make them extremely useful for hair and skin care. For instance, grapefruit essential oil (scientific name Citrus x paradisi) has been found to stimulate hair growth, french lavender essential oil (scientific name Lavandula angustifolia) has been found to help combat dandruff, and tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been found to help clear up acne.
Essential oils are extremely potent. Having an essential oil is like having a concentrated liquid form of that plant. Because essential oils are so strong, you should be sure to follow the following safety precautions before using them:
1)Keep all essential oils out of the reach of children. Some essential oils can have harmful or fatal effects if ingested.
2)Don’t apply any undiluted essential oil to your skin unless you know that it is safe to do so. Some essential oils (such as cloves and cinnamon) can be extremely irritating to the skin.
5 DIY Anti-aging Tactics
November 28, 2007
Do you want your life story to be a long and joyous one, without having every line written on your face?
Yes, we all do! Is there anyone who doesn’t want to look as good as they can, for as long as they can?
While there are some very quick fixes such as, minor to major cosmetic surgeries, there are some less extreme measures that you can use to look and feel younger on a daily basis.
(1) Check your attitude!
How do you feel about life?
Is your life going the way you want it to?
Do you take responsibility for what you have created, good or bad?
How about accepting who you are?
Be grateful for what you have, family, friends, a job etc. Then do an assessment of the things you want to change, if any.
Watch your self-talk, if you wouldn’t say those things to others, don’t say them to yourself!
Be aware of why you want to make any change in your life. It must be something you have committed to, else you will most likely fail and add one more reason to criticize yourself.

Drop The High Street Drag - Shop For Style Online!
November 25, 2007
Surely it’s considered a major fashion faux pas ? turning up somewhere in the same outfit as someone else. If the current crop of high street shops are anything to go by, however, you’d be forgiven for thinking that clothing conformity is something we’re all striving towards.
Let’s face it, for those of us looking for something a little bit ‘different’, high street shopping can be a pretty dreary and dispiriting experience. Just imagine that you’re blindfolded and parachuted into a UK city’s shopping street ? your blindfold is removed ? do you know where you are? The answer is that there will probably be very few clues, as you will find exactly the same shops wherever you go. The ‘usual suspects’ will be side by side, churning out similar-styled garments and cashing in on the latest ‘celebrity style’ craze with cheap copies of couture pieces.
To those who crave individualism and want to dress with a bit of flair and originality, this copycat culture is depressing. Kate Moss only has to appear looking stunning dressed in her own inimitable style ? inimitable being the moot point here - and suddenly we’re being bombarded by ‘where to get the latest look’ articles and fooled into spending our hard earned cash on faked fashion which isn’t going to make us look a million dollars, and won’t make us look like Kate in a million years. When it comes to mock fashion the real mockery is the one we make of ourselves.

Not to fret though as swimwear today offers great stretch fabrics for easy mobility and plenty of style options that might just minimize or hide any imperfections.
Make Your Pores Behave
November 23, 2007
Smooth and soft skin, even tone, rosy glow, pores invisible to the naked eye… Perfect complexion. Isn’t that what we hope to see when coming to the mirror?
But the reality is harsh and mirrors don’t lie. The pores are there, perfectly visible, and seem to get bigger and bigger.
Why would Mother Nature put the most visible ones where you can’t hide them? Life would be so much easier if we could keep them out of sight (and out of mind). I bet Nature had no idea people would consider pores a problem and, of course, had the best reasons in mind.
Pores are tiny (oh well, comparatively tiny) passages for oil that is produced in sebum glands to reach the surface of the skin. There are approximately 300 000 oil glands in human skin, the highest concentration is on the face, chest and back. The glands produce up to one ounce of oil daily!
The oil forms a protective layer over the skin that prevents moisture loss and helps to keep the skin soft and resilient and prevent injury and environmental damage. Given the fact that skin on the face is thinner than in other body areas and is constantly exposed to sun, wind, cold and heat, we desperately need this protection.
Fade My Freckles!
November 22, 2007
Freckles, age spots, pregnancy mask - these harmless skin defects can be quite an annoying problem. We all want not only silky smooth complexion, but an even and healthy skin tone as well.
Freckles. Considered cute by some, they are a real problem for others. Freckles, a.k.a. ephelides, are small brown or tan patches common in individuals with lighter skin, blond or red hair, and blue, green or grey eyes. They appear early in life, increase in number during summer months and fade in winter. After the age of 40-45 they disappear, but who wants to wait?
Another type of skin discoloration is pregnancy mask, otherwise known as chloasma or melasma. It appears during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. Women with darker skin are more likely to develop this condition. After delivery, chloasma will fade, however some traces may still remain. It can also occur in women who are taking oral contraceptives.
Age spots - lentigines - are similar to freckles. They appear later in life and can occur in any skin type.
The good news is: if you know why the discoloration occurs and take measures to prevent and treat it, you can have an even skin tone at any age.
